Ever wonder why Sienna Naturals chooses not to use chemical fragrance? It’s because it’s so important for us to put your health above all. Let’s dive into the truth about fragrance.
What does "fragrance" mean in the beauty world?
Fragrances often added to beauty products are artificially made in a lab using chemicals. More than 95% of chemicals found in artificial fragrances come from petrochemicals and other known toxins cited on the EPA’s hazardous waste list. These chemicals are capable of causing cancer, birth defects, nervous-system disorders, and allergies.
While these chemicals are meant to be for topical use only, artificial fragrances penetrate beyond the surface of the skin and scalp, making their way directly into our bloodstream. Therefore putting you at higher chemical exposure and risk of related health issues.
Fragrances affect people differently. When added to hair care products, for example, some may experience scalp irritation, dryness, or sensitivity. If you’re experiencing any of this, consult your physician and see about switching to a fragrance-free product.
You see, U.S. manufacturers can legally hide the chemicals that exist in their artificial fragrances by merely citing “fragrance” on the ingredients list. This is known as the fragrance loophole.
What we're doing about it.
There is good news. California is paving the way for the industry with the recent passing of the Safer Fragrance bill and the Toxic Free Cosmetics Act. To continue pushing for safer beauty regulations, Sienna Naturals is a part of Beauty Counter's Beauty Coalition (meaning: more voices banding together to advocate for better beauty laws).
We know that what you put on your body goes into your body, and at Sienna Naturals we care beyond just your hair. That’s why we make sure you can see every ingredient that goes into our products on the label. And, if you are partial to fragrance, don’t fret. While we are technically “fragrance free” by industry standards, our products are naturally scented with ingredients like essential oils, so it's still guaranteed to leave your hair smelling great. We like to call it the best of both worlds.
